Farm Tour | Spring 2020

May 21, 2022

Hooray! After COVID in 2020 and a stretch of rainy weekends in 2021, we were finally able to host our beloved Farm Tour again! This year’s tour was one for the books. The weather was warm, but there was a slight overcast, making it a great day to spend outside. Our tour began at The Seed Project’s own initiative, McKinney Roots. Here Farmer Rick, Farmer Tucker and Farmer Vicki preached our mission to supply fresh produce to the food insecure. Every week we are growing produce and collecting farm fresh eggs to distribute to local nonprofits, churches, and schools. After the tour, our guests were delighted with mimosas donated by Liz from Blue Ridge Spirits and a delicious frittata made by Chef Adam West of Local Yocal.

After McKinney Roots, it was time to load the bus and head to K bar K Ranch in Pottsboro. While it may have been a lengthy 45-minute drive, our guests were not without entertainment provided by Rick and Toby while enjoying adult libations. Everyone was in for a treat as Chef Andrea Shackelford of Harvest Seasonal Kitchen served up a hearty slice of grass-fed K bar K brisket alongside a cold brew donated by Community Beer Co. After lunch, Scott Galyon showed us around the front pasture, and we were even able to get up close and personal with some heifers. K bar K provides high quality grass-fed beer to so many local restaurants in our area and have become a true stable in the farm to table industry of North Texas.

Next stop, Pure Land Farm in McKinney. We love this father-daughter duo and what they do right here in McKinney. Farmer Jack and Farmer Megan led the group on an extensive tour of their farm where they grow three acres of thornless blackberries and two acres of annual fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, squash, onions, carrots, cucumbers, cantaloupes, and more. If Meg looked familiar to anyone, it’s probably because she is the executive director of the Seed Project Foundation! Here, our guests were able to enjoy a delectable dessert provided by Jenna Bresnan of Bresnan Bread in Downtown McKinney and a refreshing Mijenta Tequila cocktail.

We were so happy to be back in the swing of things with our Farm Tour, and we are looking forward to 2023! We hope to see you there.
