SWAC | The Heard Museum

June 9, 2022

We had our summer Supper with a Cause at The Heard Museum on June 9th, and it was a night to remember! The Seed Project Foundation hosted 80 wonderful people that came for one reason, to support The Heard. All the money we raised will go directly to them to help support their mission to protect and preserve our area. Chef Andrea from Harvest Seasonal Kitchen served outstanding food, and Toby Thomason spoiled us with wines that paired with each course.

The Heard Museum opened its doors in October of 1967 when one woman had a vison of education, conservation, and preservation. After devoting most of her life to the city of McKinney through her philanthropic endeavors, at the age of 80 years old, Miss Bessie Heard saw the need to preserve land where future generations could visit to experience nature. Today, The Heard Museum hosts over 100,000 visitors annually.

Let’s not forget the man of the hour, Executive Director, Sy Shahid. Sy grew up in Iran, moving to the US in 1968 to attend college. Sy owned 3 pharmacy chains and a high-end women’s clothing store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills before relocating to McKinney in 1980. He has been a Board Member, Board President and Executive Director at the Heard since 2007.

If you have not made it out to the Heard in a while, we highly recommend making the trip. In addition to the wildlife museum, they also host night hikes, bird walks, zip lining days, wetland canoe trails and fun date nights. You can find a calendar of fun activities on their website www.heardmuseum.org.
