SWAC | Winter 2022

February 17th, 2022

We loved celebrating and supporting donation farm McKinney Roots with our 2021 Suppers with a Cause, but it was time to give another local nonprofit the spotlight. Our Winter Supper with a Cause on February 17th benefited the McKinney nonprofit preschool Holy Family School.

Holy Family School Board President Lynne Sipiora spoke on the importance of what Holy Family School provides for families on McKinney’s east side. These families often struggle to afford childcare, let alone care that provides enrichment for their children. Much more than a day care center, Holy Family School strives to provide high quality early childhood education in a safe, nurturing environment. We believe it’s possible to educate children and families out of poverty, and it all begins at preschool. Board member Robbin Wells shared that Holy Family School is not yet at enrollment capacity, but the funds raised at Supper with a Cause would help them reach that goal. They are currently seeking a new school Director; if interested, email meg@spftx.org.

Chef Andrea Shackelford and the kitchen team at Harvest truly outdid themselves on the menu. The five-course meal began with a mini Wagyu beef po’boy, artfully presented on oak leaves and served with jus to dip. The salad course showcased the bounty of a Texan winter garden; spinach, shaved Brussels, and red cabbage tossed with smoked gruyere and crunchy pumpkin brittle. A pasta course followed of locally-made fusilli by DellaCasa – an unusual ingredient on a Supper with a Cause menu! The main course was as grilled Wagyu flatiron from Hamm’s Meat + Market down the street from Harvest, meltingly tender and served atop white grits and charred broccolini. A silky, sweet and sour lemon curd tart finished off the meal, garnished with organic flowers grown at Water Boy Farms.

This will be our last Supper with a Cause until June 9th, when we take the party outside to benefit the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary! Tickets will go on sale in May, so be sure to join our mailing list to be the first to know when they’re available. Our next event will be a gala at Rick’s in honor of the Rick’s Chophouse fifteen-year anniversary! Mark your calendars for April 26th, and we hope you’ll join us at this great event to support the Seed Project Foundation, Community Health Clinic, Hugs Cafe, and Holy Family School.
