Winter Supper with a Cause: Empty Bowls McKinney

February 6, 2020

Our first Supper with a Cause of the year is a wrap, and we have truly started the year off with a bang! After selling out in record time, fifty-three guests joined us at Harvest to celebrate Empty Bowls McKinney.

In partnership with Community Lifeline Center, Empty Bowls McKinney helps individuals and families in our community experiencing food insecurity get back on their feet by providing a food pantry (among other services). With the funds raised at Supper with a Cause and the next few months from our Round it Up America program in the restaurants, Empty Bowls and Community Lifeline Center will be able to extend the open hours of the food pantry. Currently the pantry is only open on week days during work hours, but with the grant, they will be able to open one evening per week and two Saturdays per month so people with full time jobs can have better access.

Chef Shackelford’s menu was the talk of the night! We started off craft cocktails and crispy potato skins, new to the winter menu at Harvest. Creamy cauliflower soup was served in the hand-tossed bowls kindly lent to us for the evening by Empty Bowls, which will be up for sale at their event on April 30th. The second course was a locally raised tri-tip prepared sous vide and served with carrot puree and nasturtium pesto, followed by a coffee and sorghum rubbed smoked porchetta. Last, a pecan whiskey cake crumble with brown butter ice cream capped off the incredible meal.

We were also thrilled to host Eric Sigmund from Reddy Vineyards, who donated all of the wine for the evening. Reddy Vineyards grows 38 different varietals in the Texas High Plains, making it the most diverse vineyard in Texas. Their vineyards possess a unique terroir to grow grapes with exceptional balance, depth of flavor, and intensity, and each varietal was paired beautifully with the meal.

The annual Empty Bowls McKinney fundraiser will be held at MPAC on April 30th, and we encourage you to join us there! Until then, remember that every time you round your check up to the nearest dollar (or more) at Harvest or Rick’s Chophouse, the change will be donated to Empty Bowls McKinney.

We have two exciting events coming up next! Stay tuned…
