Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance Annual Farm and Food Leadership Conference

August 11-13, 2019

In 2019, the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance’s Farm and Food Leadership Conference was held in San Marcos, Texas. For the first time, FARFA partnered with Texas State University’s Small Producer’s Initiative, to offer more sessions, speakers, and workshops than ever.

Over the three-day conference, participants attended sessions on several tracks: policy, gardener / homesteaders, business and marketing, crop production, and livestock. FARFA founder and Executive Director Judith McGeary gave a thorough update on the initiatives successfully passed in the legislative session that recently closed.

Speaker Mark Shepard gave a fascinating keynote about his real-world permaculture farm New Forest Farm in Wisconsin, a 106-acre commercial scale perennial agricultural operation considered by many to be one of the most ambitious sustainable agriculture projects in the country. Other speakers included James Brown, the founder of Barton Springs Mill, Doug Constance, Professor of Sociology at Sam Houston State University, and Kim Olson, currently running for Congress to represent Texas’ 24th District.

The 2020 FARFA Farm and Food Leadership Conference will be held in ___. FARFA is funded entirely by farmers, small businesses, local food advocates, and people like you who care about protecting our access to a healthy and productive food supply. Become a member of FARFA today!
