Farm Tour 2023

May 20, 2023

It was a gorgeous North Texas spring morning as 100 guests arrived at McKinney Roots for the first stop of our annual SPF Farm Tour. Thank you to chef Rich Vana from The Heritage Table for providing some amazing breakfast tacos to go with our mimosas!

The guests enjoyed a tour of the field, hydroponic greenhouse, and new chicken coop under construction with Farmer Tucker Nickols. The new coop will house 400 hens, enabling us to donate 200 dozen eggs every single week to feed those in need! It will be complete by the end of the summer and the new birds will move in and start laying immediately.

After the tour, guests boarded the buses and headed to Sister Grove Farm in Van Alstyne. Farmers Sarah and Rodney Macias raise eggs, chickens, beef, lamb, honey, and vegetables using all regenerative methods on their gorgeous farm. The farm also features guest houses and a pavilion available to rent for events. Andrea from Harvest Seasonal Kitchen whipped up a fantastic barbecue lunch served with cold Tupps beer.

Finally, the buses headed back to McKinney to Pure Land Farm, a pick-your-own. Farmers Jack Neubauer and Megan Neubauer raise about four acres of fruits and vegetables for the public to pick and learn about agriculture every summer. Thank you to Razskaboochy Treats for serving decadent chocolate bourbon cake with blackberries for dessert!
